There are two leading non-endoscopic testing methods fordetecting H. pylori infection: Antibody Tests (ABT) and Urea Breath Tests (UBT). The ABT is more commonly used than the UBT due to its long-term use in clinical practice and its lower cost. Despite this fact, the clinical outcomes of the UBT greatly outperform the ABT.
Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium that infects the human gastrointestinal tract. In the United States, the infection rate is about 20 to 30 percent. There are a few methods used to detect H. pylori, one of which is the 13C-urea breath test, on which the BreathID System is based.
The BreathID Breath Test System is a breath testing platform that automatically measures changes in the 13CO2 to 12CO2 ratio in a patient’s exhaled breath following the administration of 13C-labeled substrates.
The BreathID System can be used effectively in the primary care setting.
